26 June 2020, LONDON – Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has committed to honour the UK Armed Forces Covenant and support the UK Armed Forces Community.

The Armed Forces Covenant is a pledge made by organisations to acknowledge and understand that those who serve or have served in the armed forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve and have served. Its aim is to help military personnel, veterans and their families with issues such as education, housing and their post-military careers.

Jon Rigby, Liberty Specialty Markets Chief Cyber Officer, who served in the military for 33 years, said: “I am delighted that LSM has signed the covenant.  It reflects our commitment to the military and veterans’ community as just one part of our equality and diversity agenda. It’s our aim is to support veterans and reservists who work for LSM and to offer help to those leaving the services to find work in civilian life. While the covenant is focused on the UK, it is our intention to extend this initiative globally across Liberty Specialty Markets. It also means that LSM will be able to better benefit from the unique perspective and skills which military service provides.”

LSM in conjunction with the Lloyd’s Military Network, offers work experience to ex-military personnel moving into the corporate world. The insurer currently has seven ex-military personnel and reservists working in its London office.

The covenant was launched in 2011 in order to ensure that military personnel are not disadvantaged in civilian life and that special consideration is given to those who sustained injuries, as well as bereaved military families.

This year the UK’s Armed Forces Day is Saturday 27 June.
